Tips for Printing & Deploying QR Codes
Ensure perfect readability and scans by following these standardized graphic design practices.
1. Print Size & Distance Ratio
A QR code should have a size ratio of 10:1 relative to scanning distance. For example, a restaurant menu scanned from 20 cm away can be 2 cm wide. A real estate yard sign scanned from 3 meters away must be at least 30 cm wide to decode.
2. Color Contrast & Quiet Zone
Always maintain strong contrast between foreground pixels and background space. Avoid printing light-colored codes on white paper. Keep the quiet zone (the blank white padding around the graphic) intact to avoid scanning confusion.
Frequently Asked Questions
All use cases listed on FTQR are 100% free to generate as static QR codes. They do not expire, require no payments or subscriptions, and have no scan limitations.
Static QR codes encode data directly inside the pattern. They are permanent and work offline (great for business cards, WiFi, or text messages). Dynamic QR codes redirect through our server, letting you edit the destination link in the future and track analytics. Choose Dynamic if you print codes on expensive physical packaging or campaigns where URLs might change.
Use our free custom styling editor in the generator. You can upload any PNG or JPEG logo, change dot patterns, eyes, and background/foreground colors. Our generator will automatically render it into the center of the QR code securely.
No. Modern smartphones running iOS or Android have automatic QR code scanning capabilities integrated directly into their default camera apps. Pointing the camera at the code opens the link immediately.
